It is not always about Pat

Hi all,

I received news from Vija that Gary passed away on Tuesday. My heart felt condolences go out to the Pittenger family.

Gary and Vija are very good friends of ours, with a history with Pat that goes back to Michigan.

Vija, if there is anything I can do, please let me know

Scott

  1. I need to add some things,

Gary was an intellectual (one of his many talents), able to discuss matters on many levels. He was our friend. Twenty somewhat years ago I met Gary, when I moved over to Diabetes research in Norfolk.

Since then, he has worked at EVMS and although I changed occupation 12 years ago, we have remained good friends. From scotches poured , through interesting debates… really interesting debates, yet most of the time just agreement on a lot of subjects.

I am really going to miss his wit and his presence.

    • Beautiful words you said about Gary, Scoot. He was a true intellectual and a wonderful person. We will miss him, too.
All my messages to you come back returned and I am afraid that I am using the incorrect address. I just sent another email – returned.
Arthur gives me updates from your blog but I wanted to contact you personally. I do hope you get my message on the blog. Are your parents still in NC with you?
We were so pleased to hear that you were able to get Pat up to walk? Has that continued? We would like to send a basket of fruit and goodies. Is that appropriate?
      1) Where we can send physical messages and packages?
      2) What can we do to help you?
Please know that we think about you both and people here send best wishes. Much love and big hugs. Etta and Arthur

      • I travel back and forth , on weekends. As far as wrong email address, Arthur should have it. (Grin I won’t post it here due to the level of spam I get)

I can provide an address fo Pat, which I will send to Arthur’s email addres, as far as what you can do, I wish you could, but really there is nothing.

Thanks for you concern, and I’m sorry I could not make Gary’s memorial.

        Scott

  2. Thank you Scott, your words are greatly appreciated. I do need to something Gary said during his last days when We not sure if he was lucid at all times . One of our daughters said to him, “Dad, I am going to get you a pain pill.” He responded, “with scotch!” We had a good laugh.
