My top reasons to make sure your
Wind or Solar Energy Implementation Fails
(Please don't ask me how many of these I have done -Rover)
- Totally ignore your location
- Don't bother determining if your geographical area gets wind or enough
sun
- Build your windmill tower anywhere on your property, location of trees
and other buildings is totally irrelavant
- Place your solar panels on the slope of your roof that never gets sun,
if a tree overhangs it, even better
- Don't worry about the seasons and the effect of leaves on trees, shorter
daylight hours, or the height of the sun at mid day.
- Start planning your hydro power , even though there is no running water
anyhwere near your location, it rains right?
- Start off with really high expectations
- Believe instantly that everything will work, go out and spend a lot of
money
- In fact, you should probably start by buying the grid tie inverter system
so that you can sell power back to the Electric Co.
- Don't do any research
- Do not perform any searches on the Internet, or go to the library/bookstore
for more information on the subject
- Do not try to find opinions on anything you are about to , just do it
- Believe that you know best in all circumstances
- Repeatedly do things for which you have no experience and no knowledge.
- Try to repeat your failures as often as possible withought changing anything,
you know you will eventually get it right
- Totally ignore any instructions from the manufacturer concerning installation
height for your turbine, as long as the blades don't touch the ground you're
fine
- Try to avoid using common sense
- Believe that all performance data provided by a manufacturer is valid
- Start by assuming that all Wattage, and power figures describing a wind
turbine or solar panel, are the minimum values
- Totally ignore how the manufacturer determined the power rating, thing
like short circuit voltage and amps since you KNOW these don't change values
when connected to a battery
- Believe that the wind speed / power curves provided by a manufacturer were probably done at or near your location, and under the same circumstances that you will be building your wind turbine setup.
- Totally ignore any advice given by those who have done it before
- Join a Internet forum specializing in alternative engery, ask a question, then answer it yourself, ignore anyone else that responds
- In the same thread, post your justification, repeatedly
- Answer any posts that are totally unrelated to anything you have done,
will do, or have any knowledge of
- Don't try to understand basic electrical principles
- The following words/phrases should not be in your dictionary (watts, amps, volts,
Ohm's law, short cirtcuit, AC, DC, fuse, switch, AWG, resistance, capacitance,
3 phase, ground.
- Firmly believe that there really is no reason for different wire sizes, they will all conduct
- Firmly believe that AC and DC can be intermixed as the both have "C"s
in them.
- Know that it doesn't matter what size inverter you connect to your one
car battery bank , it won't hurt the battery, the inverter , or the Air
Conditioning unit you have plugged into it
- Believe that if it is on eBay , it has to be good
- Immediately buy those blades/solar panels/alternators based on the description
that they are better than anything else and will perform better than the
stuff that came with unit you bought.
- Ignore the fact that out of the 10,000 items sold by the vendor, this is
the first time they have sold a solar panel
- Ignore the fact that feedback seems to be all from the same buyer who has
the same last name as the vendor
- Never look at shippoing charges, especially if the vendor is overseas
- Make sure you outbid anyone else, regardless of the final price
